Still wet behind the ears, R&B sensation Chris Brown hit the big time right off the bat with his single “Run It!” A Virginia native, Brown was discovered the old fashioned way--while working as a grease monkey at a gas station. At the tender age of 15 he was lured to L.A. to work under the guidance of such rap and hip-hop greats as Bow Wow and Scott Storch to hone his craft and prove his mettle. In 2004 Jive Records offered him a contract and work on his debut album began immediately. The self-titled album, Chris Brown, released in 2005, quickly rocketed to the top of the R&B charts and the single “Run It!” took off all on it’s own merit. The single “Gimme That” satisfied more fans still hungry for Brown’s silky grooves. In fact nearly all the tracks off this album have gained wide attention and driven Brown’s popularity through the roof.
What will he do next? Chris is currently still in the studio polishing his follow-up album. Tracks and title have not officially been disclosed and of course there is unprecedented expectation for this next effort. Just off the merit of his first album, Brown earned BET award for Best New Artist, Billboard Awards gave him Best Male, Best New, and Best Artist in general for 2006; and he garnered two prestigious Grammy Award nominations, for Best R&B Contemporary Album and Best New Artist. Perhaps the most humorous award was that given by MTV’s Total Request Live for Fake ID Award.
