Rock’s Punks with an Attitude

In the beginning, Nick Wheeler and Tyson Ritter of an early iteration of The All-American Rejects, were fortunate for their opportunity to tour with a number of quite successful bands, notably The Flaming Lips. By 2000 the Rejects’ sound and style was evolving into their characteristic mix of pop and alternative rock with an attitude. The duo soon drew musicians from a couple of other bands to join the Rejects. Mike Kennerty and Chris Gaylor were drawn in as if to the vortex that would become the complete band.

2001 heralded the beginning of their success. They toured sometimes in conjunction with other contemporaries of the time, with the goal to get their brand of punkish rock heard by fans. Doghouse Records offered them a contract and helped them get their first album off the ground. All-American Rejects was released in 2002 and unfortunately the one viable single off the album, “Swing, Swing,” left some fans waiting for more for way too long. The Rejects couldn’t get another album going until 2005. However, when they finally did release the album, Move Along, the single “Dirty Little Secret” won fast praise and shot to the top of the charts. The single “Move Along” won a Video Music Award for Best Group Video. “It Ends Tonight” is the latest single off the Move Along album and the band continues to pursue a range of innovative promotional projects including video games, special appearances and collaborations with other musicians.
