Marco Antonio Solis’ interest in music and band instruments struck at an early age. He took to songwriting and became proficient with a number of instruments, just the talent he needed to form his first band at the tender age of 12. Originally from Ario de Rosales, Michoacán, Mexico, Solis would grow to become one of the most well-recognized and honored pop Mexican artists.

Band Los Bukis

During the 1970s, Solis formed the Mexican pop group, Los Bukis (“The Youngsters”). The band was comprised of Solis’ brothers, friends, and cousins. The band’s debut album was released in 1975. The single, “Falso Amor” was a quick hit.

The Latin Beatles

Solis was the front man for the group for the next two decades. Under his direction, the band garnered a number of hits. By 1989, the group was so popular that they were known as the “Latin Beatles.” A number of personnel changes took place over the years. As a result, the band’s sound changed from traditional Mexican music to a Latin pop sound.

Through it all, Solis took on more responsibility as the band evolved. He wasn’t content just to be the lead singer and composer. Solis also became the group’s producer and arranger. He wrote songs for other artists as well. When Solis left the band in 1995, the remaining band members formed a group known as “Los Mismos.”

Solo Act

Marco Antonio Solis success as a solo artist outdid that of his Los Bukis years. He won two Premio Lo Nuestro awards in 2004. Solis’ album Tu Amor o Tu Desprecio was chosen as the Album of the Year.

2004 was also the year that saw Solis perform to sold-out crowds throughout the Americas. At the 2005 Billboard Latin Music Awards, Marco Antonio Solis took home a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his 30-year career.
