Popular Mexican Artists

Mexican act, Maná, first started their musical career translating classic rock covers from American bands of the 70s. Maná is currently made up of vocalist Fher Olvera, Juan Calleros, Sergio Vallin, and Alejandro (Alex) Gonzalez. In 1986, the band released a self-titled album on the Polygram label. Maná was considered an important part of the musical movement that became known as “Rock in Your Language”. Polygram attempted to change the band’s image, as is known to happen to musical acts.

Falta Amor

In 1990, Maná released Falta Amor. The album did not produce any hits right away. It took about a year before the first single, “Rayando el Sol,” reached the top of the charts. This success was followed up with a tour that included 350 performances. The band was given the opportunity to perform for fans in Mexico, Columbia, Ecuador, and Peru.

¿Dónde Jugarán los Niños?

Maná followed up the 1990 effort with ¿Dónde Jugarán los Niños? in 1992. This powerhouse of an album netted the band eight No. 1 singles. An international tour soon followed. Maná brought their music to over 17 countries. The band performed more than 260 concerts in North and South America and Spain. Maná participated in Switzerland’s Montreaux Festival. The band continued to perform throughout the 1990’s. A studio album entitled Cuando los Ángeles Lloran followed in 1994. In 1997, Mana’s album, Sueños Líquidos was simultaneously released in 36 countries.

Selva Negra

The members of Maná are more than just musicians. In 1995, they formed Selva Negra, a foundation intended to increase awareness about environmental issues and to provide assistance to help preserve the planet’s plants and animals.
