This talented singer has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide. His fans love the passion that he displays while performing. He always strives to keep his musical standards high. For this reason, Iglesias finds each new album a challenge to create.
Iglesias was born in Spain in 1975. His parents divorced when he was three years old. He lived with his mother until the age of eight. At that time, Enrique and his siblings went to live with their father, Julio Iglesias, in Miami.
Young Iglesias dreamed of stardom and began writing songs in secret. He attended the University of Miami for a year before trying to break into the music industry. Iglesias’ first manager marketed his demos under an alias at the young singer’s insistence. Iglesias kept his career aspirations secret from his family until he landed a recording contract with Fonovisa.
Iglesias’ first album, recorded in Spanish, sold one million copies in the first three months following its release. His follow-up effort, Vivir, made it to the Top 40 charts and sold more than five million copies. Iglesias was the top-selling Spanish-language artist in the world within three years.
Iglesias’ first English album, Enrique, was a major hit for the singer. It achieved double platinum status in the United States. He was named Favorite Latino Artist at the Blockbuster Entertainment Awards in 2000.
Escape was Iglesias’ next offering. It made its debut in the #2 spot on the charts. This album included the single, “Hero.” Igelesias went on to release “Quizas”, which immediately shot to #1 on the Latin charts. The singer’s seventh album, appropriately named 7, was released in November 2003. As with his previous efforts, Iglesias either wrote or co-wrote every track on the album. He continues to grow as an artist and strive to produce the next great song. His many fans will no doubt continue to appreciate his efforts.
