Charlie Daniels Band
Southern Rock ‘n Roll with Bluegrass Sound
The Charlie Daniels Band is made up of musicians Taz Di Gregorio, Charlie Hayward, Bruce Brown, Pat McDonald, Chris Wormer, and front man Charlie Daniels.
Charlie Daniels
Charlie Daniels was born on October 28, 1936 in Wilmington, North Carolina. He grew up listening to a variety of musical styles. Daniels was no doubt influenced by the Pentecostal gospel, bluegrass, R&B, and country music he listened to as a youngster.
After graduating from high school in 1955, Daniels formed his own rock ‘n roll band and started touring. By 1969, Daniels was working in Nashville as a session guitarist. He worked on the Bob Dylan albums Nashville Skyline, New Morning, and Self Portrait. Daniels also tried his hand at producing during this time. He worked with the Youngbloods on their albums Elephant Mountain and Ride the Wind. A European tour with Leonard Cohen was also a highlight of this time in Daniels’ life.
Not an Outlaw, An Outcast
The Grammy-winning artist has stated, “I’m not an outlaw; I’m an outcast.” He has also released a number of multi-platinum albums. This hard-working musician often toured up to 250 days per year and has logged more than one million miles on the road.
A Variety of Musical Styles
It is difficult to categorize exactly what “Charlie Daniels music” is. Daniels takes his influence from a number of musical styles. This fact was mentioned when Daniels was awarded the Academy of Country Music’s Pioneer Award in 1988. Jimmy Carter pointed out that Daniels has played “everything from rock to jazz, folk to western swing, and honky-tonk to award-winning gospel.”
Something for Everyone
Charlie Daniels himself describes his sound as “purely American music with something for everyone.” This talented performer has been playing music for more than 40 years. He continues his touring schedule, to the delight of his loyal fans.
