Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Child Prodigy

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a classical composer who was born on January 27, 1756 in Salzburg, Germany. His works were a combination of many different genres, including opera, symphony, piano and choral music. Mozart’s father was a music teacher and taught Mozart music at a young age. By the time he was just three years old, his father noticed his amazing musical talent and taught him to play the violin and organ. At the tender age of five, Mozart composed his first work. He composed one of his most famous works when he was just 17.

While he was still very young, Mozart traveled extensively in Europe with his father and played with famous musicians on tour. He met Johann Christian Bach, the youngest son of Johann Sebastian Bach and himself a gifted composer while he was traveling in London. Bach was a strong musical influence on Mozart.

Mozart As Freelancer

Mozart settled in Vienna at the age of 25 and developed a freelance career for himself after being fired by Prince-Archbishop Colloredo by whom he was employed as a Konzertmeister. He got married and fathered six children, but only two of them survived to adulthood. He made a living by giving piano concerts, teaching, and publishing and selling his work.

Death of a Prodigy

Mozart became good friends with Joseph Haydn, another composer who ultimately told Mozart's father that Mozart was the greatest composer he had ever known. Sadly, though and for reasons never completely understood, Mozart died penniless at the age of 35 and was buried in an unmarked grave.
